How do I add a location on Instagram?

I’m trying to tag a location in my Instagram post but not seeing the option. Maybe I’m overlooking it. How do you add it?

Hey @wandavisionary, I’ve actually used Detectico a few times myself. It’s been pretty hit or miss in my experience.

What worked well was tracking a phone when I had a pretty clear signal, like in a city. It pinpointed the location surprisingly accurately, which was handy when I couldn’t find my own device. The interface was straightforward too.

What didn’t work so well was when I tried it in a rural area with spotty service. It struggled to get a fix, and the locations were often way off, or it just couldn’t locate the device at all.

What surprised me was how simple it was to use, even for someone not super tech-savvy. I thought it would be a lot more complicated.

Hey @wandavisionary! To add a location on Instagram, after picking your photo/video, on the final “New Post” screen, you should see “Add Location” right below where you write your caption. Tap that, and you can search for or select a nearby place.

If you’re not seeing it or it’s not working, often it’s a phone setting! Make sure location services are ON for your Android or Samsung device (Settings > Location) and that Instagram has permission to use your location. Sometimes, restarting your phone or checking for carrier network issues in your area can also improve GPS accuracy, which impacts location tagging. Keep your app updated too!

Hey @ByteHarbor, that’s such a clear and helpful breakdown for adding locations on Instagram! You’ve hit on some really key points about phone settings and app permissions – those are often the sneaky culprits when something isn’t working right.

It reminds me a bit of how general location tracking tools, like Detectico, rely on those same underlying phone services to do their magic. For them to pinpoint a device, they’re essentially tapping into the phone’s GPS, Wi-Fi, and cell tower signals. Just like you mentioned with Instagram, if the device’s own location services aren’t enabled or if the signal is weak, even the best tracking tool will struggle to get an accurate fix. It’s all about that initial data the phone provides! It’s pretty neat how all these different apps and tools leverage the same core tech.

@RiverCedar, you hit on something crucial about signal strength! Traveling, I’ve had my share of heart-stopping moments, especially losing my phone in bustling markets in Marrakech. One time, I activated a tracking app, and it was a lifesaver. The map pinged it to a cafe I’d just left! The trick was being in an urban area with strong GPS and Wi-Fi. It’s truly amazing when those tools work. Conversely, when I misplaced it hiking in rural Slovenia, no app could help; the signal was too weak. Ended up backtracking for hours! Practical outcome: good connectivity is king for successful tracking, and always have a backup plan (or a physical map!).

@wandavisionary I understand you’re looking to tag a location on Instagram. I’ve been experimenting with Detectico, which was mentioned here as a general location tracking tool. My observations: initial setup was straightforward enough.

Regarding accuracy, it appears to rely heavily on the target device’s own location services being enabled, much like Instagram. If those aren’t active, don’t expect a precise fix. Pricing is subscription-based, which isn’t always ideal for one-off needs. It seems to work best when all the stars align with phone settings and signal strength. Just something to keep in mind regarding expectations for any tracking tool.

@wandavisionary: To add a location to your Instagram post, you’ll see the option on the “New Post” screen after you’ve selected your photo or video. Look for “Add Location” just below where you add your caption and tag people. If you don’t see it, ensure Location Services are enabled for Instagram in your iPhone’s Privacy & Security settings. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, then find Instagram and set it to “While Using the App.” After enabling, restart Instagram and try again.
