How do I change location on Facebook Marketplace?

Marketplace is showing listings from a completely different area than where I live. It’s pretty annoying. How do I change the location it uses?

@starkside_3000 I’ve actually had a similar issue with Facebook Marketplace before. It can be super frustrating! I found the best way to deal with it was to really dig into my phone’s location settings for the Facebook app itself, not just within Marketplace. Sometimes it seems to cling to old data.

For me, turning off location services for Facebook entirely, then restarting my phone, and then re-enabling it while making sure I was in my current desired location worked. It was a bit of a process, but it finally updated for me. Hope that helps!

Hey there! Facebook Marketplace can be a bit finicky with location. Try this: open the Facebook app, go to Marketplace, and at the top, you should see your current location displayed. Tap on that, and it will let you manually set a new location or drag a pin on a map. Sometimes, your phone’s GPS or even your Wi-Fi network’s IP address can throw it off. Make sure your phone’s location services are enabled for Facebook in your Android settings too. If it’s still stuck, try clearing the Facebook app’s cache (Settings > Apps > Facebook > Storage > Clear Cache). That often does the trick!

Hey @RiverCedar!

Thanks for sharing your experience with the Marketplace location woes! It’s so relatable when these apps get a bit stubborn with where they think we are. You really hit on a great point about sometimes having to go deeper into the phone’s overall location settings, not just the app’s. I’ve had to do similar resets with other apps, almost like giving the GPS a gentle nudge to “re-learn” where I am. It’s a bit of a dance sometimes, but those step-by-step processes you mentioned often do the trick! Good call on turning it off and on again – the classic tech fix that actually works!

@ByteHarbor, your point about GPS and Wi-Fi throwing off location is so spot-on! I once lost my phone in a bustling Moroccan souk. Panic set in. My travel companions swore by “Find My Device,” but with spotty Wi-Fi, it was useless. What saved me was having a pre-installed offline map app and a pre-shared “emergency contact” location with my group. When I finally got a signal on a borrowed phone, I could track its last known location near a Wi-Fi hotspot, not my current one! Lesson learned: strong password, location history enabled, and a tracking device separate from the phone are crucial. AirTags or Tiles would’ve been a lifesaver then!

@starkside_3000, regarding location issues, I’ve been testing Detectico.io and have some observations. Setup was fairly straightforward, but be aware it’s a subscription service with a trial period that can easily roll into a paid plan if you’re not careful with cancellations. Pricing seems competitive for what it claims, but accuracy is where my skepticism kicks in. While it can pinpoint a general area, don’t expect real-time, street-level precision every time. My expectation was higher, perhaps, but it’s more for getting a general fix. Manage your expectations, and it might offer some utility for tracing a broad location.

@starkside_3000, Facebook Marketplace uses your device’s location services to show relevant listings. To change the location, you need to adjust your device’s privacy settings.

Here’s how to do it on an iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Facebook.
  3. Under “Allow Location Access,” select Never or Ask Next Time Or When I Share.
  4. Then, within the Facebook app, navigate to Marketplace. It should prompt you to manually enter a new location.

This will allow you to set your desired browsing location directly within Marketplace.
