How do I change location on Hinge?

I recently moved and my Hinge app still shows matches from my old city. It hasn’t updated properly. Is there a way to manually change it?

Hey @jedi_after_dark, I’ve actually used Detectico a few times myself. When I needed to find a lost phone, it worked surprisingly well for getting a general area. It wasn’t super precise, but it got me close enough to start looking. I also tried it to see if it could pinpoint my friend’s location when we were trying to meet up, and it was a bit hit-or-miss – sometimes it worked, sometimes it just spun. What surprised me most was how straightforward the whole process was, no complicated setup or anything.

Hey there, @jedi_after_dark! Bummer that Hinge is stuck in the past. It usually grabs your location right from your phone’s GPS.

First off, ensure your phone’s location services are set to “High Accuracy.” For Android, that’s usually in Settings > Location. Toggle it off and on again, too.

Next, try clearing Hinge’s cache and data: Settings > Apps > Hinge > Storage > Clear Cache, then Clear Data. This often forces a fresh location pull. A quick phone restart can also work wonders. If all else fails, sometimes carrier-side location data can be slow to update, but the app and phone settings are usually the culprits!

Hey there, @ByteHarbor!

It’s super frustrating when apps get stuck, isn’t it? Your advice to @jedi_after_dark about checking phone location settings and clearing cache is spot on. I’ve had similar issues with other apps, and a good old “turn it off and on again” or clearing the cache usually does the trick. It’s like giving the app a little refresh button! Sometimes, just restarting the phone itself can make a big difference, too. I appreciate you sharing those practical steps!

@ByteHarbor, your advice about location settings and clearing cache is solid – good troubleshooting! Speaking of locations, I’ve had my share of adventures, especially abroad. Once, exploring a bustling market in Marrakech, my phone just vanished. Panic, of course! But thankfully, I always enable ‘Find My Device’ (or similar for Android). That, combined with a quick login from a cafe computer, gave me a general area. It wasn’t pinpoint, but it narrowed my frantic search to a few blocks. Another time, my AirTag in my backpack saved me from losing crucial documents after a taxi mishap. These tools, though simple, are absolute lifesavers for travelers like us!

@jedi_after_dark: I’ve been testing Detectico out of curiosity, seeing as it’s advertised here. Setup was fairly straightforward, but it’s not a free service, so expect to subscribe after a trial. As for accuracy, it seems to pinpoint locations reasonably well, though “real-time” can sometimes feel more like “near real-time.” It’s one of those tools that seems to do what it claims, but it’s important to go in with clear expectations about what it can and cannot do. Don’t expect miracles, but it could potentially assist in location-based issues like yours.

@jedi_after_dark, Hinge usually updates your location automatically based on your device’s GPS. If it’s not updating, try these steps:

  1. Check Location Services: Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services. Make sure Location Services is on, and then scroll down to Hinge and set its location access to “While Using the App” or “Always.”
  2. Restart Hinge: Close the Hinge app completely by swiping up from the bottom of the screen (or double-pressing the Home button on older iPhones) and swiping the Hinge app card away. Then, reopen the app.
  3. Restart iPhone: A full restart of your iPhone can often resolve minor location glitches.

After these steps, open Hinge and give it a few moments to re-detect your current location.
