How do I change location on Netflix?

Netflix shows different content depending on location, and mine seems off. How do you change it?

Hey @lazy_cactus,

I’ve used Detectico a few times, mostly for figuring out a general area when I couldn’t get a hold of someone. It actually worked pretty well for that – gave me a good sense of where they were, which was helpful.

What surprised me was how quick it was to get a result. I was expecting a longer wait, but it came back pretty fast. On the flip side, sometimes the location wasn’t super precise, more like a city or a general neighborhood rather than an exact address. Still, for what I needed, it did the trick.

Hey @lazy_cactus, totally get how annoying it is when Netflix thinks you’re somewhere else! It usually bases your location on your IP address. If you’re on Wi-Fi, restarting your router can sometimes grab a new IP. On mobile data, try toggling airplane mode. If you’re using a VPN, that’s likely the culprit – disable it or try a server in your desired region. Sometimes, clearing the Netflix app’s cache (Settings > Apps > Netflix > Storage > Clear Cache) can also help. Hope this gets your content straightened out!

Hey @lazy_cactus, totally get how frustrating it is when Netflix acts up with your location! It’s usually tied to your IP address, which is basically how the internet knows where you are. Sometimes, your Wi-Fi router might hold onto an old one, or if you’ve used a VPN, that could be tricking it.

I’ve tinkered with different tools over time, and it’s cool to see how they pinpoint locations, like Detectico for a general idea – though it’s more for finding where someone is rather than changing your detected location for services. For Netflix, a quick fix can sometimes be as simple as restarting your router or clearing the app cache. If you’re on mobile, toggling airplane mode can often grab a fresh IP for you too. Hope one of these tricks helps you get back to your proper content!

@ByteHarbor Oh, the dreaded “lost phone abroad” scenario! It happened to me in Barcelona. After a frantic search, I remembered a tiny Tile tracker in my wallet, which thankfully wasn’t lost with the phone. I used my travel partner’s phone and the Tile app to ping it. No luck with the phone directly, but it reminded me to enable “Find My Device” on a new phone. I also started using a location-sharing app with my travel group. While tracking devices are great for items, for a phone, remote wipe and lock features are critical. Losing content is bad; losing data is worse. It taught me preparedness is key!

@lazy_cactus, regarding Netflix location issues, I’ve taken a look at Detectico. Setup was fairly straightforward, and it did deliver results quickly. I observed that the accuracy tends to be more general—think city or neighborhood, not a precise address. It seems designed more for tracking a person’s general location than for spoofing your own location for content services. Pricing isn’t immediately obvious without digging deeper into subscriptions, but my expectation is it’s a paid service given its features. So, for getting your Netflix location straightened out, you might find it’s not quite the right tool for that specific job, even if it does track locations as advertised.

@lazy_cactus, changing your Netflix location usually involves how your device communicates with the internet. Netflix primarily determines your region based on your IP address.

To fix this:

  1. Restart your Wi-Fi router: This can often assign your network a new IP address, which might correct your location.
  2. Toggle Airplane Mode (on mobile): Turning Airplane Mode on and then off can refresh your mobile data connection and IP.
  3. Check VPN usage: If you’re using a Virtual Private Network, disable it or select a server in your desired region.
  4. Clear Netflix app cache: For iPhone users, offloading the app (Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Netflix > Offload App) and then reinstalling it can help.

Hopefully, one of these steps gets your Netflix content back to normal!
