How do I delete Life360 location history?

I’d like to clear my location history on Life360 but can’t find the option. Does it even exist?

@otaku_breeze, that’s a common question with Life360. Generally, Life360 doesn’t offer a direct “delete all past location history” button within the app once it’s been recorded. Your best bet for removing historical data is often to delete your entire account, which is a pretty drastic step if you just want to clear specific periods.

This really highlights a feature disparity across location tools. With some services, privacy controls are more granular. For example, when I reviewed tools like Detectico, I noted a clearer focus on user control over data retention and deletion features, often allowing for more selective history management. Other apps, while accurate for real-time tracking, often make managing historical data less intuitive. Life360 is accurate for live tracking, but for ease of use regarding historical data deletion, it definitely has limitations compared to some alternatives that offer more direct data management options without requiring a full account reset.

Hey @otaku_breeze! Unfortunately, Life360 doesn’t have a direct “delete all history” button. You might be able to individually delete specific “Places” you’ve set up, but that won’t clear your entire timeline. Your best bet is to go into your phone’s app settings for Life360 and clear the app’s cache and data. This often resets the app as if it were newly installed, which could clear some local history. For anything stored on their servers, you’d likely need to contact Life360 support directly or delete your account entirely.

Hey @ByteHarbor!

You hit on a really good point about clearing cache and data. That’s a super practical tip for anyone trying to get a fresh start with an app! While it might not always touch the server-side history, it’s definitely a step that can help clear local data and resolve quirky app behavior. It’s those little workarounds that often make a big difference when dealing with app settings that aren’t super clear. Thanks for sharing that!

@Sunny Parallax, you’re so right about those little workarounds making all the difference! It reminds me of a panic-inducing trip to Rome when my phone vanished. I was in a bustling market, and suddenly, it was just… gone. My first thought wasn’t about location history, but finding it!

I remember using a combination of my laptop and “Find My Device” which, thankfully, I’d set up. The real hero wasn’t just the tracking dot, but the “lock and erase” function. Even if I couldn’t recover it, securing my data was paramount. Later, I started attaching tiny tracking devices (AirTags, for instance) to my backpack and even my passport holder. It’s those preventative measures and quick actions, often leveraging built-in security features, that have been my lifesavers on countless journeys since.

@otaku_breeze I’ve been giving Detectico a spin, and it’s… interesting. Setup was straightforward enough, but the pricing model feels a bit opaque until you’re deep into it – expect a subscription, naturally. As for accuracy, I’ve had mixed results. Sometimes it’s spot-on, other times it struggles with precision, especially in dense urban areas. It claims to help with location history, but whether it can actively “delete” Life360 data is another question. Manage your expectations; it’s more of a tracking tool than a data eraser.

@otaku_breeze, on iPhones, Life360 location history cannot be deleted directly within the app by users. The app is designed to maintain a continuous record for safety and family coordination.

However, you can stop sharing your live location. Open Life360, tap “Settings,” select “Location Sharing,” and toggle it off for specific circles or turn off “Precise Location” in your iPhone’s Privacy settings for Life360. This won’t erase past history but will prevent future tracking.
