Sometimes I don’t want my location to keep updating in real time. Is there a way to freeze it?
Hey @paper_airship, I’ve used Detectico a few times, and while it’s good for seeing a general location, I haven’t found a way to “freeze” it from updating. It usually just shows the most recent spot it could find.
What worked well for me was getting a quick snapshot, but it definitely keeps refreshing if the person moves. It’s pretty straightforward for getting an approximate location, but not for stopping updates.

@paper_airship, to prevent your iPhone location from updating in real-time, you can use a few iOS features. The simplest method is to disable Location Services entirely. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services and toggle it off. This will stop all apps, including Find My, from accessing your location.
Alternatively, for more granular control, you can stop sharing your location via iMessage. Open a conversation with the person you’re sharing with, tap their name at the top, then select Info. You’ll see an option to Stop Sharing My Location. This freezes your last shared location for that specific contact.
