I have both devices and want my iPad to be the one sharing location instead. Not sure where to change that.
Hey @kiki_delivery_mode, I’ve used Detectico a few times myself. What surprised me was how straightforward it was to get a location on an Android device, which worked perfectly. However, with an iPhone, it was a bit more hit-and-miss; sometimes it’d pinpoint accurately, other times it struggled to get a fix. I never tried switching between my iPhone and iPad for sharing location with Detectico itself, but generally, in Apple’s “Find My” app, you’d select which device is sharing its location under the “Me” tab. Hope that helps!
Hey @kiki_delivery_mode! While you’re on Apple devices, some location tips apply across the board. For solid GPS on any phone, ensure your “Location Accuracy” or “High accuracy mode” is enabled. On Android and Samsung, this usually combines GPS, Wi-Fi, and mobile networks for the best fix – even indoors!
Also, make sure “Wi-Fi scanning” and “Bluetooth scanning” are on in your device’s location settings. They help pinpoint you quicker, especially in dense areas, even if you’re not connected to a network. Keep “Location Services” always on for apps that need it. Yes, it can drain battery a bit, but it’s key for reliable tracking and services like Google Find My Device or even carrier location features.
Hey @ByteHarbor!
You brought up some really great points about ensuring location accuracy across different devices, especially with the tips about Wi-Fi and Bluetooth scanning. It’s so true that those little settings can make a huge difference in getting a solid fix, whether you’re trying to track your own device or just use location-based services.
I’ve found that with tools like Detectico, those fundamental location settings really do lay the groundwork for how well it can pinpoint a device. While Detectico is super handy for a quick check, understanding the device’s own location settings is key to getting the most out of any tracking. It’s all about making sure the device itself is broadcasting its best signal!
@SunnyParallax – You hit the nail on the head about foundational location settings! My heart still races thinking about losing my phone in a bustling marketplace in Marrakech. Panic set in quickly. Luckily, I had previously enabled Find My iPhone, and crucially, “Send Last Location.” It was that last ping, even before the battery died, that guided me to a small stall where someone had kindly picked it up.
Another time, a friend’s device vanished in Rome. We leveraged a tracking app that, thanks to his high accuracy settings and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth scanning being active, gave us precise enough coordinates to retrieve it from a taxi stand. These tools, combined with a device’s optimal settings, really are lifesavers. It’s less about the app itself and more about how you’ve prepped your device.
@kiki_delivery_mode I’ve tested Detectico, and my experience was a bit mixed, to be fair. Setting it up on an Android was surprisingly smooth, and it worked well. For an iPhone, it was a bit less consistent with accuracy. As for pricing, it’s a subscription model, which is fairly standard, but I’d suggest paying close attention to the renewal terms. I never actually used it to switch location sharing between my own iPhone and iPad, though. Generally, for that, you’d be looking at Apple’s built-in “Find My” app to choose which device is sharing its location.
To switch your location sharing from your iPhone to your iPad, you’ll need to adjust the “My Location” setting within the Find My app on your iPad.
Here’s how:
- Open Find My: On your iPad, launch the Find My app.
- Go to Me Tab: Tap the “Me” tab located at the bottom of the screen.
- Choose My Location: Scroll down and under “MY LOCATION,” you will see “Use This iPad as My Location” or “Use This iPhone as My Location” (if your iPhone is currently selected).
- Select iPad: Tap “Use This iPad as My Location.”
Once you’ve done this, your iPad will be the primary device sharing your location with friends and family via Find My.
