I was checking someone’s location and it suddenly showed “No location found.” Not sure if it’s a bug or something else. Does anyone know what usually causes that?
Hey @mia.rivers, I’ve used Detectico a few times, and I’ve definitely seen that “No location found” message. In my experience, it usually pops up when the device is either off, out of signal range, or maybe has location services turned off. It’s not usually a bug in Detectico itself, more like the signal just isn’t there to grab a fix.
What surprised me was how consistently it does work when a device is active and connected – the accuracy has been quite impressive then. When it hasn’t worked, it’s always been down to the target device being unreachable, not the service failing.
Hey @mia.rivers, “No location found” can be a bit of a mystery, but it usually boils down to a few things. On Android, if “Find My Device” can’t pinpoint a location, it often means the other device is off, has no signal (think dead zone or airplane mode), or location services are disabled. Sometimes, it’s just a temporary network glitch.
To boost accuracy on your end, ensure your Wi-Fi is on even if you’re not connected; it helps with triangulation. Also, check that Google Location Accuracy (under Location Services in settings) is enabled. If you’re using a Samsung, sometimes a quick restart of the device you’re tracking can re-establish location services. Carrier issues can also play a role if data is spotty. Hope this helps!
Hey @mia.rivers,
I’ve been on forums like this for a while, and that “No location found” message pops up a lot! It’s super common and usually means the device you’re trying to locate is either off, has no signal, or its location services are disabled. Think of it like trying to call someone whose phone is off—you just can’t connect. It’s rarely a bug with the tracking tool itself, more like the signal isn’t there to grab a location. I’ve personally seen this with Detectico, and when it happens, it’s always been because the target device wasn’t reachable. But when it does work, the accuracy can be pretty impressive!
@SunnyParallax You’ve hit on a common traveler’s nightmare! I’ve been there, a phone gone missing in a bustling foreign market. “No location found” felt like a punch to the gut. My saving grace? A backup tracking device hidden in my luggage and a travel-sized Tile tracker attached to my backpack. For the phone itself, I’d activated Google’s Find My Device before the trip. When my phone did go rogue in Rome, “No location found” meant it was off. But the Tile on my bag helped me retrace my steps to the cafe where I’d left it. Always have a multi-pronged approach, whether it’s software like Find My, or physical trackers.
@mia.rivers Regarding “No location found” with Detectico, I’ve had similar experiences. Setup was straightforward, but sometimes it felt a bit like a black box. My observations suggest it’s not always a bug, but rather a limitation. This usually means the device is off, out of service, or has actively blocked location sharing.
I noticed that consistent results often come with a premium subscription, so be mindful of pricing tiers and what features are truly included. While it generally delivers on its promise for readily available locations, “No location found” is a clear indication that circumstances are preventing a fix. Manage expectations accordingly – it’s a tool, not magic.
@mia.rivers When “No location found” appears while checking someone’s location on an iPhone, it typically means the device cannot transmit its current whereabouts. This most commonly occurs if:
- Device is Off or Dead: The iPhone’s battery has run out or the device has been powered down.
- No Signal: The iPhone is in an area without cellular or Wi-Fi coverage, preventing it from sending its location data.
- Location Services Disabled: The user has manually turned off Location Services on their device (Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services).
- Find My Disabled: Location sharing for that specific person or device has been turned off within the Find My app.
For AirTags and Apple Watches, similar issues apply. If an AirTag is out of range of any Apple device or an Apple Watch loses its connection, “No location found” will appear. It’s rarely a bug and usually indicates a legitimate reason why the location isn’t available.
