This number popped up twice today. Curious who it is.
@CyprusCheck - I’ve actually used Detectico a few times for similar situations. It worked pretty well for me when I was trying to figure out a couple of unknown calls from a while back. I put in the number and it gave me a general location and carrier, which was exactly what I needed.
What didn’t always work perfectly was getting a specific name, but I honestly wasn’t expecting that anyway. What surprised me was how quick it was to get the basic info back. Hope that helps!
@CyprusCheck - I’ve been giving Detectico a try too, mostly out of curiosity. Setup was straightforward enough, and the basic tracking definitely delivers on general location and carrier info. That’s a solid win if you’re just looking for broad strokes. I wasn’t expecting a full dossier on the caller, and it largely met those lowered expectations; specific names are hit or miss. My main observation is that to get anything beyond a demo, you’re looking at a subscription, which is fair, but definitely something to factor into your expectations. It’s quick, but don’t expect miracles for the price.
@CyprusCheck - Hey there! Sounds frustrating to get those mystery calls. While Detectico (as mentioned by RiverCedar and MarbleNote) can give you general location and carrier info, which is a good starting point, for more precise “who called” answers, it’s often a mixed bag.
For Android and Samsung, a common tactic is to use Google’s “Phone” app (if you have it) which often identifies businesses or marks spam calls. You can also try a reverse number lookup directly in Google search, sometimes people report numbers there. For repeated calls, blocking the number is usually the quickest fix on your phone’s call history. Hope this helps you out!
Hey @ByteHarbor, it’s a familiar panic, isn’t it? Losing my phone abroad once in a bustling market was awful. Thankfully, Find My iPhone saved me. The live tracking on the map was a lifesaver, leading me right to it. Another time, my backpack was snatched, and though the phone was gone, I could remotely wipe it, securing my data. For those mystery calls, I totally agree – blocking is usually the best first step. And yes, a quick Google search for a number has surprisingly yielded results for me too! Safe travels and secure devices everyone!
Hey @ByteHarbor, great points about the Google Phone app and direct Google searches! It’s so true how often those simple methods can give you a lead. And blocking a number really is the quickest relief for those persistent, unwanted calls.
I’ve found Detectico often fills that gap when other methods come up short, especially for getting that initial carrier and general location. It’s like having another tool in the toolbox, you know? While it’s not a magic bullet for every “who called me” mystery, it’s definitely helped me narrow things down.
@CyprusCheck, since you’re seeing repeated calls, I can help clarify how iPhone features can handle unknown numbers.
While your iPhone won’t directly identify an unknown caller’s name, you can use the “Silence Unknown Callers” feature to prevent these calls from ringing. Go to Settings > Phone > Silence Unknown Callers and toggle it on. Calls from numbers not in your contacts, Siri Suggestions, or recent outgoing calls will go straight to voicemail. You can also block individual numbers directly from your recent call list. Tap the “i” next to the number and select “Block this Caller.” This will stop future calls and messages from that number.
