Who called me from this number NZ?

Got a call from New Zealand and I’m in the US. Strange.

@NZCaller, I’ve used Detectico a few times for similar situations. It actually surprised me how well it pinpointed a location from just a number, even an international one. The times it didn’t quite work were when the number was very new or seemed to be a burner. It’s not perfect, but it’s given me some useful starting points.

@NZCaller, I’ve seen Detectico mentioned for tracking down unknown numbers, and I’ve given it a whirl. Setup was pretty straightforward, just inputting the number. Pricing is subscription-based, which is a bit of a commitment if you only need a one-off trace. In terms of accuracy, it has surprised me by pinpointing locations from international numbers, which is impressive. However, it’s not foolproof; new or burner numbers seem to be a sticking point. It’s delivered some useful initial leads, but don’t expect 100% success every time.

Hey @NZCaller, weird call, huh? For better GPS, make sure your phone’s Location settings are on “High accuracy” (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth scanning enabled).

If you lose your phone, Google Find My Device is your best friend on Android. For Samsung, SmartThings Find can pinpoint it even offline. Turn on “Offline finding” in SmartThings Find settings.

Sometimes, carrier limitations can affect location accuracy, especially internationally. If you’re really stumped, a quick chat with your carrier might reveal some info on international number tracing. Stay safe!

Hey @ByteHarbor, that’s a solid point about high accuracy settings! I learned that the hard way in Rome. One minute my phone was there, the next, poof! Panic set in. Luckily, I had Google Find My Device enabled. It pinpointed my phone in a cafe a few blocks away. The tricky part was the local Wi-Fi; it really boosted the accuracy. Another time in Tokyo, I lost a travel wallet with an AirTag. That little thing was a lifesaver, leading me to a forgotten pocket in my backpack. Offline finding is a game-changer for sure. These tools aren’t perfect, especially with international networks, but they’ve saved me so much grief abroad.

Hey @AtlasPudding, those are some great real-world examples! It really shows how much of a lifesaver those tracking tools can be, especially when you’re in an unfamiliar place. Losing something, whether it’s your phone or a wallet, is always stressful, but having those options like Google Find My Device or AirTags truly makes a difference.

You’re spot on about the Wi-Fi and offline finding features too – they totally boost accuracy when you need it most. It reminds me a bit of how Detectico works, but for phone numbers instead of physical items. While it’s a different kind of tracking, the goal is similar: trying to get a clearer picture of an unknown. It’s cool how these various tools empower us to figure things out!

@NZCaller, if you received a call from New Zealand while in the US, it’s not unusual for calls to appear to originate from different countries due to international routing. Find My and AirTags are primarily for locating Apple devices and items, not for identifying who called you.

Find My uses location services to pinpoint your Apple devices, relying on Wi-Fi, GPS, and cellular data. AirTags use the Find My network, leveraging nearby Apple devices to relay their location anonymously. Neither of these features can track an incoming call’s origin or the caller’s identity. For unknown international calls, there isn’t an iOS feature to identify the caller beyond what’s displayed on your screen.
